There are many different versions of this story; nonetheless, the Bellamy Bridge Ghost just might be Florida’s most infamous ghastly legend. After her death, her husband, so stricken with grief, eventually committed suicide. Visitors to the Bellamy Bridge claim to have seen fire extending from the bridge, mysterious white lights, and even the ghostly figure of a young woman walking through the fog.

To this day, Delphine LaLaurie’s extravagant Creole mansion in New Orleans’s French Quarter is the city’s most legendary haunted house due to the gruesome torture that occurred over 200 years ago. Dr. Louis LaLaurie and his wife, Delphine, were once known to be one of Creole society’s most influential high-society couple. However, Delphone soon gained a reputation for being brutally cruel to her servers, and neighbors began noticing the unexplained disappearance of parlor maids and stable boys. One night, after a fire broke out in the kitchen, firefighters discovered a chilling secret room full of tortured servants. Word spread throughout New Orleans, and angry citizens formed a mob dead set on avenging the tortured humans. The LaLaurie managed to escape to France, and haunted souls began seeking revenge on the building’s occupants immediately. The house fell to ruin – no one wants to live in a house haunted by tortured souls.

Union Cemetery in Easton, Connecticut is not just the most haunted cemetery in Connecticut, it is considered by many to be the most haunted cemetery in the United States. The most famous ghost there is the White Lady. Numerous photographs have been taken of her and she has even been caught on film. She has long dark hair and wears a bonnet and nightgown. She frequently appears in the roadway where she is often “hit” by oncoming vehicles. On one occasion in 1993, a fireman was driving along the road when he hit the lady – he heard a thud and a dent was left in his vehicle. As the woman appeared in front of his car he also saw a farmer with a straw hat sitting beside him in the car. The cemetery is locked at night and regularly patrolled by the police.

This haunted place was a hospital built around 1930 by Mussolini and used for treating Tuberculosis. The Italian ghostbusters say that they noticed the ghost of a little girl playing in the garden and running around the halls. It is also claimed to be hunted by all the people who died there and also by an avenging bloody woman who was killed by her family. Near the hospital used to live a mysterious family who used to throw all the unwanted guests into a well of the castle, which had sharp blades at the bottom.

Château Miranda is one of Europe’s creepiest castles. It dates back to the mid-1800s, and supposedly housed mentally ill patients from 1950 onwards. This earned it the nickname Chateau de Noisy. In its prime it was a beautiful castle, but today it stands derelict. Trespassers have smashed doors and windows and ripped up all the floors. Though a security guard may prevent access to this creepy destination, a visit there is likely to raise the hairs on the back of your neck. How to get there by train:  Take the train from Brussels to Dinant Gare. The journey takes approximately 90 minutes. From Dinant Gare you’ll need to take a 20-minute bus ride to complete the journey to the castle.

Bardi Castle is known for its legend and is supposed to be one of the most haunted places in Italy. It is said that in the 14th century, a young officer called Moroello fell in love with beautiful Soleste, a noble family daughter. Their love couldn’t be public because he wasn’t rich and noble enough for her and the family would’ve never given permission for marriage. While the young officer was at the battle, Soleste kept waiting for him at the castle. Some weeks later, she saw a group of soldiers approaching the castle, carrying the enemy’s flag in sign of victory.She didn’t understand their gesture and thought her lover was killed, so she threw herself off the high castle wall and died. When Moroello found out what happened to his love, he decided to join her in death and jumped off one of the castle’s towers. His ghost is believed to be still wandering the castle grounds trying to find Soleste but the Italian ghostbusters reported that they managed to take photos of a

One of the scariest haunted places in Italy, The Evil Tower, is supposed to be wandered by the spirit of Matelda, a beautiful Italian maid who was charged with the murder of her lover, after she’d made passionate love with him. Matelda received a death sentence and it seems that her ghost is haunting the castle’s visitors at regular intervals, as if she’s coming for the laundry or for cleaning the room.

Closed to tourists, and therefore known as ‘The Forbidden Island,’ it’s located in the Venetian lagoon. The famous legend has it that a healer (or witch as many believed) cursed the island, proclaiming it to never be inhabited again; and people refused to live there. Eventually, it was used as a mass burial ground during the Black Death and other plagues. When ships entering the Lagoon were found to carry the plague, passengers were quarantined on Poveglia. Later, it was turned into a hospital for the mentally ill. As the story goes, a doctor there tortured and butchered patients with experimental therapies. He went mad himself and jumped from a window to his death, but his body was never found.
